ADOPTED

     short description

Merle is a bright girl. She is curious and adapts quickly to changes, orienting herself to the dogs in the foster family.

She is playful, and increasingly invites the other dogs to play.

Merle walks already pretty well on a leash.

      special features / medical informations

All dogs under ASAP’s care and over the age of 6-months undergo a comprehensive blood test, which includes testing for the main 5 Mediterranean diseases - 5DX. Merle was tested on 14/5/25 and was found to be clear for 4/5 DX. The data, however, confirmed that she has been bitten at some point by a sandfly, infected with the Leishmaniasis parasite. Her body has responded by producing antibodies to fight this infection. Further, the biochemistry results indicated that this infection is not clinically active, but Veterinary advice was to treat with a series of injections, which kill off the parasites and which in most cases push the disease into remission. She will need to take a simple medication - in tablet form for the next 12-months or so - which is cheap and easily available. It is the same medication used to treat gout in humans. She will need repeat blood tests in 6 and 12-months time and if the results show an improvement, the tablets can be stopped.

      full description

Merle is a active, curious medium-sized dog who has been at ASAP since 8th March 2024. Previously she lived on the street. There she got on well with all dogs and also with cats. She was a little undernourished, but has since gained weight. Merle was initially very reserved and cautious with people at first contact, now she shows much more trust and seeks contact. In the meantime, she also calls for caresses. She has mastered the visit to the vet in the city very well. She doesn’t like to drive, but she does it very well anyway. Merle currently lives with other dogs in the house and is house trained. She has a box in which she has room for herself and in which she also sleeps overnight. She sleeps through the night and is quiet in her box. During the day she is also outside, where she can run and play with the other dogs. In the meantime, she is more confident in contact with the other dogs. She behaves well on the walks with the other 6 dogs in her foster home and walks well on a leash. Since Merle has a lot of energy, she enjoys it very much when she can walk without a leash from time to time. She seems to have a pronounced „snose“ and likes to follow every trail. However, she has no interest in the fenced chickens and peacocks in her foster home. Currently, Merle is injected twice a day due to her treatment of her leishmaniasis values. Here she is surprisingly calm. Fortunately, this does not affect their already built-up trust in people. If you are looking for an active dog that enriches your family life - you will find with Merle a new family member on four paws, which is suitable as a single or second dog.
