adoption process
Every circumstance is different,
but this brief guide lets you know what you will experience when you rehome an ASAP dog.

ASAP is your gateway to finding your new pet.
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us via Mail or Facebook.

Once you have contacted ASAP to enquire about adopting one of our dogs, we will send you a pre-adoption questionnaire to complete. It is important that this is completed accurately and honestly so that we can try to avoid any future problems or unhappiness for both the dog and the owners. There are no right or wrong answers as different dogs will have different needs - one dog may require a huge garden whilst another just wants a lap to sit on for cuddles. Once we have received the completed questionnaire, this will be circulated amongst ASAP Committee members for discussion (usually 24 hours) and you will then be contacted for further discussion.

Depending on your locality, we may arrange a home-visit or we will ask you to take a video of your house and garden so that we can be certain that you have sufficient space for a dog and, if there is a garden, that it is safe. Please be assured that the majority of the time we happily agree to the adoption but we take these measures because we have to be sure that the dog is going to its Forever Owner and will be happy and safe.

If everyone is in agreement, we will put you in direct contact with the fosterer so you can receive photos and discuss a smooth transition for the dog. We will discuss transport arrangements, which will be at the new owner's expense, and release fees with you.
All dogs will have received the appropriate vaccinations; for pups over 15 weeks, this includes rabies, a passport and a microchip. Dogs over the age of six months will also receive a blood test for the five main Mediterranean diseases. If a dog is travelling to the U.K. we can arrange for Brucella Canis testing if requested. Dogs require castration/sterilisation at various ages depending on their breed. ASAP will arrange this if the dog is still in foster with us. However, adopters will be required to sign an Adoption Agreement which states that they will arrange for the dog to be castrated/sterilised at the appropriate time if this has not been completed.
Release fees will vary from dog-to-dog depending on a variety of circumstances but never cover the full amount we spend on each dog so additional donations are always welcome.
Our fosterers often get very attached to the dogs they look after and we always welcome updates and photos from adopters. We have some fosterers who have rescued, fostered and re-homed over 100 dogs and puppies - it can be hard work but so rewarding when we receive lovely photos.

Animals from Rescue and Welfare Organisations are not a second choice - they have just lived more than other animals. If they were human, we would call them wise. They would be the ones who could tell stories and write down their experiences: the ones who respond to bad treatment with courage, and open up again and again to a new kind and patient person who cares for them.
Don’t feel sorry for them. Help save them. Donate.
Be a helper. Be a foster carer. Adopt. And above all be proud to have been part of their journey.
